Harrow Winter Festival Concerts

Congratulations to all Harrovians involved in the Winter Festival Concerts. The students performed with passion, flair and confidence. There was a remarkable diversity of different instruments and singing which left everyone feeling the Christmas spirit and so proud of our youngest Harrovians.

‘I had high expectations for the Winter Festival Concerts this year, but our performance exceeded them all.’

— James Pickering, Head of Music

Early Years

The Early Years all dressed in red and black with Christmas hats certainly impressed the audience with their smiles and talents. The big stage and the biggest parental audience of the week certainly didn’t put them off ! These are special and memorable moments and the start for developing a love of music. They have worked so hard with their teachers and especially Mrs Liu in preparing for the concert.

Pre-Prep

We heard a song or piece of music from every single class in the Pre-Prep, as well as combined year groups, and even a whole school song at the end. The performance ranging from traditional Carols to students playing Hand Bells, through to modern pieces with a real mixture of instrumentation, including the Cello, Guitars, Xylophones and more was tremendous. We even featured a few of our talented students as soloists. We have to say a huge thank you and well done to our Head of Lower School Music, Mrs Liu, as well as all of the teachers, learning support assistants and support staff who made this superb concert possible.

Prep and Senior

The final concert of the week was our Prep and Senior School event which involved the Year 5 and 6 Choir, the Prep String Ensemble, the Year 7 and 8 Choir, the Chamber Choir and the Orchestra. The range of music was a powerful blend ranging from some of the earliest Christmas music known (Gaudete – from the 12th Century), traditional Carols (Silent Night, including a verse in Mandarin), contemporary songs (That’s Christmas to me – sure to be a classic) before finishing of with a rousing rendition of “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” with everyone present in full voice, including our parents and teachers.

A huge thank you and well done to all involved!
