Head Master
Shanghai is a vibrant and dynamic city on China’s eastern coast, where tradition and modernity come together. With its rich cultural heritage, international outlook and excellent infrastructure, Shanghai offers a diverse and exciting environment for families. The city is home to a wide range of cultural, educational and recreational opportunities, making it an attractive place to live, work and thrive.
The Harrow Shanghai community is close-knit, with around 500 students from 350 families across Shanghai. Students come from diverse backgrounds, with a mainly Chinese cultural heritage, and many learn English as a second or third language. Families are supportive, engaged and have high expectations. We value strong relationships and build close connections with families through open communication and community events.
Working with Harrow International School Shanghai has been an incredibly meaningful experience, especially because of the diversity of people, cultures, and perspectives that make our community unique.
I value learning from others, celebrating different identities, and building meaningful connections across cultures. The whakataukī from my home country, “He aha te mea nui? He tangata, he tangata, he tangata,” meaning “What is the greatest thing in the world? It is people,” reminds me that people are at the heart of everything we do.
Early Years Centre Coordinator, Early Years Teacher
This is my seventh year working at Harrow Shanghai, and as both a staff member and a parent, I feel so lucky to be part of the community. Seeing my two boys thrive here is wonderful; they’ve had so many incredible experiences, from sports and overseas competitions to residentials and real academic challenges. What truly makes our school special, though, is the genuine bond between our students and families. It’s a joy to work in such a vibrant community that also supports my own professional growth.
Head of Lower School
One of the things I value most about working at Harrow Shanghai is the opportunity to make a genuine impact. There is a real ambition to keep developing and improving, and I have been given the trust and freedom to build programmes, introduce new ideas and help shape the direction of Sport and PE. It is a busy and ambitious school, but also a close community, with colleagues and pupils who make it a genuinely rewarding place to work.
Director of Sport
