We would like to warmly congratulate the students of Harrow Shanghai for their exceptional performance in the UKMT Intermediate Mathematical Challenge (IMC), where they achieved a remarkable set of results, including nearly 10 gold, silver, and bronze medals.

Among the winners, Henry (Year 7) and Kenneth (Year 8) both secured gold medals, ranking within the top 1000 students in the UK. As a result, they will progress to the next stage of the competition, the Cayley Maths Olympiad. We wish them the best of luck as they take on this next challenge!
What makes this achievement even more impressive is that, although the competition is designed for students in Years 9 to 11, over half of the participants from Harrow Shanghai were in Year 7 and Year 8. This not only demonstrates the strength of Harrow Shanghai’s mathematics programme but also highlights our commitment to supporting students of all abilities and encouraging them to challenge themselves with increasingly difficult mathematical problems.

At Harrow Shanghai, we place a strong emphasis on challenging our students’ mathematical abilities from an early age. In the Primary School, we implement differentiated teaching, providing more advanced content for students with exceptional mathematical abilities and encouraging them to participate in competitions such as the American Kangaroo. In the Upper School, all students have the opportunity to take part in a range of competitions, including AMC 8/10/12, JMO, PMC, IMC, and BMO. In the senior years, students can choose to study Additional Maths and Further Maths through IGCSE and A Level courses, equipping them with the skills needed to succeed at top universities in the UK, the US, and the world.

We follow the British national curriculum, using a spiral approach to teaching that allows students to revisit and build on their understanding of key mathematical concepts. At Harrow Shanghai, mathematics is not confined to the classroom. We focus on developing a deep understanding of mathematical principles and their real-world applications, as well as fostering problem-solving skills. This approach ensures that our students not only excel academically but also develop a genuine passion for mathematics.
