To promote Leadership for a Better World through an outstanding education, involving academic achievement, a broad range of extra-curricular activities (Leadership and Service programme) and individual pastoral care.
The development of leadership qualities has been a core element in a Harrovian education for a very long time. All of the Harrow International Schools embrace the spirit of Harrow School in the UK and guide their pupils to our vision, as stated in the statement above, of Leadership for a Better World.
It is the aspiration of all the Harrow International Schools to prepare future leaders of the stature of the greatest Old Harrovians, men such as Sir Winston Churchill, one of seven British prime ministers educated at the school, Jawaharlal Pandit Nehru of India and King Hussein of Jordan. Harrow Shanghai provides a range of leadership opportunities for all its pupils in a wide variety of contexts from group and individual activities to school teams, from the pupil council to being a prefect, and for everybody in the all-important assumption of personal responsibilities.
Leadership at Harrow Shanghai involves leading from the front and being an effective team player, while focusing on six key leadership attributes:
- Contributing positively to the community
- Applying knowledge with compassion
- Solving problems collaboratively
- Solving problems creatively
- Making just and responsible choices
- Facing challenges with determination
These six leadership values will be embedded in all aspects of life at Harrow Shanghai, both in and out of the classroom, and in the House.
